Digital versus Film — remember film??

November 29th, 2009
It occurs to me as I write this blog post, that some wedding couples may not even remember what film looks like…digital imaging dominating the photography world for at least the last eight years.  Well, at a recent wedding I shot a few rolls and it surprised me just how great it looks and how much I like it. I started doing wedding photography with film so I have always known that there is a texture and feel to film images that you can’t reproduce with digital, but honestly, I had forgotten…
So, I thought it would be interesting to post some comparisons for your review. Perhaps you will agree that film images still have a place in the photographic world and will elect to have it included by your photographer in her or his capture of YOUR WEDDING DAY.

Can you see the difference? Digi on the left, film on the right. Digital is almost too clean and crisp, film has texture, grain and in some cases more accurate color rendition.

These black and white are both film. Beautiful, no??

One of my favorites from the wedding. What do you think? Film or digital?
Now, I’m not ready to advocate using film exclusively at a wedding (yet) but I do think at least a few rolls are fun and provide the client with a whole other look for their wedding photography collection.
